Outskirts Press Publishing Experience Review From: James Davis III, author of Forgotten Lost and Hidden America

James Davis III, the youngest of three—one brother and one sister, was born in Norwalk, Connecticut. He grew up in a project named Roodner Court, the baddest project in Norwalk at the time. Through his brother, sister and relatives he became exposed to the street life in the neighborhood: hanging out, going to the local house parties, dances and smoking cigarettes. It was a time of African awareness—being black and proud, the times were hard and there were limited opportunities, especially if you didn’t have any skills or education, some teenagers and young adults had promising futures in sports: basket ball and foot ball, some was in college, some were into entertaining—singing groups, some went to the military, and many were into the street life: number writers, selling illegal drugs; bootleg alcohol; stealing and Pimpen. Due to hard times and the street life his brother became a Pimp, he learned alot being around him, but he was led into other crimes and was convicted twice, he spent a total of 7 1/2 years in the State prison, he feels and believes his second conviction was a blessing in disguise, because during this time he received a diploma, quit smoking, and gave up the bad habits he once had, when he left prison he had a different perspective on life a better understanding about Religion and history.

“Well to be honest up untill Bridget became Rep to me there was some concerns because of the delay in completing publication of my book, after she became Rep to publishing my book every thing worked out great- better than I expected.”
